Where it takes place

Ecological Succession is set in K’aresh, the newly introduced zone in Patch 11.2 — the ruined homeworld of the Ethereals, devastated by the Void and on the verge of total collapse.
With the help of Ve’nari, players are tasked with restoring K’aresh’s environment by introducing new life into sealed biodomes (eco-domes), artificial habitats designed to support and stabilize ecosystems.

What is Ecological Succession

It’s a new interactive world system that allows players to:
  • capture creatures from other regions of Azeroth,
  • transport them to K’aresh and place them inside eco-domes,
  • observe their behavior and adaptability to the environment,
  • and, if successful, release them into the open world of K’aresh.
It’s a hybrid system that blends ecosystem management, collection gameplay, and narrative progression — like a mini “Void-themed Jurassic Park” built into the game.

How to start

  1. Complete the introductory questline in K’aresh to unlock access to the eco-domes.
  2. Speak with Ve’nari, who will provide:
  • the tools to capture creatures,
  • access to habitat domes,
  • and a management interface to track your progress.
  1. Begin collecting fauna from Azeroth and beyond, returning them to appropriate biomes (desert, forest, swamp, etc.).

  2. Placement: Bring the creature to a matching eco-dome and place it inside.
  3. Observation: Creatures are observed over time to determine if they can adapt and survive.
  4. Release: If compatible, they’re released into K’aresh’s open environment to help repopulate the region.

Rewards

Participating in this system grants both visual progress and gameplay incentives:
  • Achievements, such as:
  • “Ecological Succession” – complete the entire system.
  • “Otherworldly Ecologist” – collect a wide variety of species.
  • “Ecological Stability” – maintain active life in all eco-domes.
  • Titles and cosmetics – not confirmed yet, but highly expected.
  • Environmental transformation – the more creatures you release, the more the zone visually evolves: plant growth, colors, ambient life, etc.

  • Rare species count more toward achievements and dome growth.
  • Group-based creatures might require coordinated efforts to capture.
