Minor Changes
This guide explains the new Mythic+ changes observed in the Midnight beta, focusing on the Great Vault, the new crest upgrade system, and what this realistically means for players.
⚠️ Note: These changes are not yet officially confirmed by Blizzard and are based on what is currently visible in the beta.
What’s Changing in the Mythic+ Great Vault
In Midnight, the Mythic+ Great Vault no longer caps at +10. Vault rewards now scale all the way up to +18, adding meaningful progression beyond current limits.Observed Vault progression:
- +10 / +11 → Mid Track 1/6
- +12 / +13 / +14 → Mid Track 2/6
- +15 / +16 / +17 → Mid Track 3/6
- +18 → Mid Track 4/6 (282 item level)
What Does NOT Change
Despite the new scaling, several core rules remain the same:- The Great Vault still rewards one item per week
- Rewards remain Myth Track gear
- Mythic+ dungeons still do not drop gear at the end of the run
- Only the starting upgrade level of the Vault item changes
New Crest Upgrade System
The upgrade system has been fully reworked and now uses progressive crest costs across all gear tracks.Upgrade costs per level:
- 1 → 2: 10 crests
- 2 → 3: 20 crests
- 3 → 4: 30 crests
- 4 → 5: 40 crests
- 5 → 6: 50 crests
Upgrade Strategy Implications
This change strongly affects how players should approach gearing:- Upgrading multiple items at lower ranks (1–3) is far more efficient
- Final upgrades (4–6) are extremely expensive
- Loot quantity now matters more than pushing a single item to max early
Why +18 Keys Matter So Much
Completing a +18 key grants a Vault item starting at Mid Track 4/6, which:- Saves 60 crests per week
- Avoids paying the 1→2, 2→3, and 3→4 upgrade costs
Limitations of the Vault Advantage
The benefit is not guaranteed:- It only matters if the Vault item is actually usable
- Mythic raiders gain less value due to raid-based Vault rewards
- A bad Vault roll can effectively waste the crest savings
Realistic Difficulty of +18 Keys
+18 keys are not intended to be weekly farm content, especially early in the season.- Beta testing occurs with inflated item levels, tier sets, and best-in-slot trinkets
- On live servers, players will enter Mythic+ around 240–245 item level
- Tier sets and optimal gear will not be immediately available
End-of-Season Goal, Not a Routine
+18 keys are designed to be:- A high-skill milestone
- Comparable to top-end keys (18–20) in early The War Within
- Achievable by dedicated groups, not the average player base
Why This Change Is a Positive One
This update finally gives Mythic+ players:- A clear incentive to push higher keys
- A tangible reward beyond score and achievements
- A reason to progress past the traditional +10/+12 stopping point
